Jame Masjid

Description

The Muslim community also resides in Hetauda city. With the cooperation of the local community and the Muslim community, Makwanpur's first Jame Masjid was established in the Vikram Samvat year 2016. Here, the practice of performing Namaz (prayer) five times a day at specified times under the names Fajr, Zuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha is followed. Without criticizing any religion, Muslim children are taught to read the Quran twice a day, in the morning and evening, alongside receiving daily knowledge about Islam. Every Friday at a designated time, Muslims from all over the district gather here to perform the Jummah prayer. The major festivals of the Muslim community, Ramadan Karim (Roza) and Eid-ul-Adha (Bakrid), are celebrated together with great joy and enthusiasm. During Ramadan, a month-long fast, various food items are prepared daily inside the mosque for those fasting; everyone breaks their fast together in one place at the same time, without any discrimination of status or concepts of ritual impurity. The day after Ramadan ends, Muslims gather at the mosque to offer Eid prayers at a specified time, embracing each other and sharing happiness by eating and serving Sewai. Bakrid (Eid-ul-Adha) is celebrated about two and a half months after Eid. Wealthy Muslims compulsory divide the meat of the sacrificed goat into three parts: one part is distributed among the needy, poor, and helpless; one part is given to relatives and friends; and one part is kept for their own household. It is said that the Bakrid sacrifice is not valid unless divided into these three parts. Within the mosque premises, a school named Madarsa Darul Quran is operated, providing education, food, and lodging for poor, helpless, and orphaned children, where currently 40 to 50 children are studying. Although the mosque has no regular source of income, all supplies have been sustained through donations from local Muslims. The mosque is located about 1 km away from Buddhachowk in Hetauda Bazaar, at Bhairav Road, Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City, Ward No. 4.
